2017 Supporters

Thank You to our 2017 Donors & Supporters

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, funders and sponsors, we are thrilled to share that we have raised $2.6 million of our $5 million goal in the first two years of our Protect, Connect, Sustain Campaign (2016-2020).

In 2017 our supporters helped Credit Valley Conservation get some really great work get done, including:

  • The creation of the Credit Valley Trail (CVT) Strategy, the CVT Indigenous Experience Plan and the CVT Tourism Development Plan. This work significantly advances CVC’s vision of a 100 kilometre continuous, connected river valley trail from the headwaters in Orangeville through Caledon, Halton Hills, Brampton to the shore of Lake Ontario in Mississauga
  • The planting of 7,000 trees and native shrubs annually through the Community Tree Planting Program
  • Park improvements at Island Lake Conservation Area including the construction of an on-water amphitheatre, the installation of wheelchair accessible fishing piers, trailside benches and ongoing trail maintenance of the Vicki Barron Lakeside Trail.
  • Boardwalk trail infrastructure upgrades at Rattray Marsh Conservation Area improved accessibility for visitors to this unique urban wetland on the shores of Lake Ontario.
  • The engagement of 252 high school students annually in the Conservation Youth Corps summer program. Youth planted 8,000 native trees and shrubs, restored aquatic stream habitats, assisted in wildlife and ecosystem monitoring, removed invasive species and assisted in maintaining local community gardens.
  • The restoration of Muskrat Pond at Terra Cotta Conservation Area. Soon, this artificially dammed pond will flow down the Second Creek increasing habitat for brook trout in the Credit River Watershed.
  • Management of Dog Strangling Vine (DSV), an invasive plant species that has infested the Forks of the Credit Centre for Biodiversity
  • The development and implementation of Why Wetlands?  An investigative look into wetlands through multimedia and environmental inquiry. This three-part program featuring a video, a classroom activity and a field trip for grade 4 students in Credit River Watershed was delivered to more than 300 students and 12 schools in 2017.
