Morphology 2021, presented by Lakeview Community Partners, is an evolving photography exhibit, documenting construction of the Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area, a 64-acre waterfront green space. The exhibit is an opportunity to view the emerging new landscape on the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Through the lens of photographers and filmed content, the public is invited to see the evolution of Canada’s largest construction project of its kind. Morphology 2021 runs from October 15 to 30 at the Small Arms Inspection Building in Mississauga, 1352 Lakeshore Rd E. Visitors can explore their relationship and connection with water, landscapes and our shared responsibility to for Great Lakes. The exhibit is offered free to the public thanks to generously funding support from Lakeview Community Partners, Edenshaw Developments and Mother Parkers Tea and Coffee.

Morphology was the inspiration of former Mississauga Ward 1 Councillor Jim Tovey and was first launched on January 14, 2018, the day before the Councillor’s untimely passing. Morphology was born from a vision championed by Jim and Lee Tovey, along with community members, during early construction of the conservation area.

“The transformation taking place on the waterfront is nothing short of remarkable. With the construction site closed to the public, we’re very pleased that people can experience the changing landscape for themselves through Morphology”, said Stephen Dasko, Regional Councillor, Mississauga Ward 1. “Working with exceptional local photographers, the exhibit shows Jim’s vision coming to life with the morphing of the conservation area on the waterfront.”

The new conservation area lies adjacent to Mississauga’s Lakeview Village development, Canada’s next generation waterfront community that will connect business, education, culture, residences and recreation along the waterfront.

When completed, the shared community dream of restoring public access to the entire Lakeview area will be fulfilled after more than a century of military and industrial use. As Councillor Tovey often repeated, “It’s time to bring the lake to Lakeview.”

Registration is required for Opening Night by visiting https://morphology2021.eventbrite.ca. All other days are walk-in with no registration required. Fully vaccinated guests are welcome. Proof of vaccination is required. Masks are required and covid-19 safety protocols are in place.

The exhibit is organized by Credit Valley Conservation Foundation, Credit Valley Conservation, the Region of Peel, Toronto and Region Conservation, the City of Mississauga, Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives, and Greatness – The Great Lakes Project, with production support from Metalworks and RM Pictures.
