Beer made with 100 Per Cent Maple Sap Supports Land Protection
A bold new beer is tapping into the roots of Canadian heritage and conservation. GoodLot Farmstead Brewing, in collaboration with Credit Valley Conservation Foundation and Wilder Climate Solutions, is proud to introduce Tree Hug, a beer crafted from the sap of Canada’s national tree, the sugar maple. Proceeds from this unique brew will support the acquisition of ecologically significant land, ensuring its protection in perpetuity in the neighbouring communities of the Credit River Watershed. Tree Hug is a celebration of Canada’s natural abundance, brewed with Canadian cereal grains, Ontario hops and pure maple sap in place of water, resulting in a deeply complex and uniquely Canadian flavor.
Inspired by traditional brewing techniques in a solar-powered brewery, this beer embodies a commitment to both the land and the communities that depend on it.
“The idea behind Tree Hug was to create a beer that not only tastes like Canada but actively works to protect its landscapes for future generations,” said Phil Winters of GoodLot Farmstead Brewing. “This initiative aligns perfectly with our values of sustainable brewing and local stewardship.”
The collaboration between GoodLot Farmstead Brewery, Credit Valley Conservation Foundation, and Wilder Climate Solutions ensures that each can of Tree Hug directly supports the acquisition and protection of vital greenspaces. These lands will be protected indefinitely, contributing to biodiversity, climate resilience, and the well-being of local communities. By harnessing the power of Canada’s national tree, this initiative not only supports conservation but also reinforces the value of sustainable, locally driven industries.
“This is about more than just beer—it’s about securing a future where our landscapes remain protected,” said Dayana Gomez of the Credit Valley Conservation Foundation. “By enjoying Tree Hug, a proudly Canadian-made drink, Canadians can take pride in knowing they’re making a tangible difference. We’re thankful for the partnership that makes this possible. Land acquisition along the Credit Valley Trail optimum route and across the Credit River Watershed is a top priority. With funding from the sales of Tree Hug, our efforts to protect vital natural spaces, enhance community well-being, preserve water quality, and support climate resilience will continue, ensuring long-term environmental stewardship.”
Tree Hug will be released on Earth Day for a limited time at GoodLot Farmstead Brewing and can be enjoyed at some of Canada’s finest restaurants: Down Home (Markdale), The Pine (Creemore), The Gate (Flesherton), Pearl Morrissette (Jordan Station) and Antler (Toronto).
