The Credit Valley Conservation Foundation (CVCF) announced today a renewed two-year partnership with The UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the global logistics leader, in support of Credit Valley Conservation’s (CVC) Community Outreach tree planting and youth engagement programs. The UPS Foundation committed more than $100,000 to help sustain and enhance local green spaces in the Credit River Watershed.

“UPS has been a valued and long-standing partner of CVC’s for over a decade,” said Terri LeRoux, Director of Parks, Lands and Community Engagement for CVC. “They’ve played a significant role in this community with their ongoing financial support of conservation initiatives. UPS is making a meaningful difference in the watershed and we’re grateful for their continued partnership.”

UPS’s support will fund 28 volunteer planting events and engage 1,120 community members to plant and maintain 4,250 native trees and shrubs, ultimately improving the health of our environment and building local resilience to climate change. The partnership is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and will run class trips for approximately 200 high school students from local under-resourced neighbourhoods. These excursions will offer youth hands-on learning experiences and foster an appreciation for the natural environment.

”As part of our goal to plant 50 million trees around the world by 2030, we’re proud to support Credit Valley Conservation,” said Whilna Stewart-Franklin, Community Relations Director at UPS Canada. “We believe that every person, regardless of geographic region or socio-economic class, deserves to live in a safe and healthy environment. Showing the next generation how our personal actions – like tree planting - might affect our neighbours is a first step to creating a more just and sustainable world.”

UPS and CVC have partnered on environmental initiatives since 2011. During the partnership, UPS has generously provided nearly $550,000 to support CVC’s Community Outreach programs and more than 1,000 UPS employees have volunteered to plant over 4,300 native trees and shrubs.

CVC and CVCF rely on the generosity of partners like UPS to support local conservation efforts such as environmental education and tree planting. Tree planting is a practical and effective way to add green space in urban areas, cooling neighbourhoods from the impacts of climate change.
