May 16, 2016 – Credit Valley Conservation Foundation (CVCF) hosted its eleventh annual Conservation Gala on May 5, raising $235,000 in support of a thriving environment that protects, connects and sustains us.
The funds will support Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) programs such as the Conservation Youth Corps (CYC) and Greenlands Securement.
CYC is a youth program that provides incredible environmental focused volunteer opportunities for high school students in the Credit River area. Participants gain practical experience in conservation and natural resource management in a safe and structured environment.
CVC’s Greenlands Securement Strategy is a science-driven, criteria-based process that identifies significantly important conservation land for protection in perpetuity. These lands will contribute to the foundation of a connected system that will provide natural heritage protection, appreciation and recreational benefits for healthy ecosystems and healthy communities.
“Our annual Conservation Gala enables us to invest in youth environmental education programs that help cultivate the green leaders of tomorrow” said Terri LeRoux, Executive Director, CVCF “we will also be investing event proceeds in land acquisition as it provides the greatest certainty for protection of water resources and can help address the problem of water security at its source, by protecting streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, and aquifers that provide drinking water.”
The gala, held at Lionhead Golf Club in Brampton, was presented by title sponsor, Enersource. Nearly 400 environmentalists, business people, community members, politicians and guests attended. Other major event sponsors were Guardian sponsor Aquatech, Condrain, DG Group and Gems and Leader sponsors Argo Developments and Flato Developments.
